Responsibilities of the Molecular & Cytogenetics Tech Specialist:

  • Serve as a regional technical consultant for molecular, cytogenetic, and NGS testing for managers, supervisors, lab staff, physicians, and other health care professionals.. Discuss findings with clinicians, acting as a technical consultant. Advise and discuss additional testing where appropriate.
  • Oversee quality improvement for molecular testing; this includes instruction of lab staff and overseeing quality assurance and quality control records. appropriate level of proficiency testing for each laboratory. audit and review results of all proficiency programs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and standardize regional practices and procedures; direct implementations; ensure all standards are met as outlined by accrediting and regulating agencies including ISO, CAP, TJC , OSHA / WSHA and CMS.
  • Evaluate and validate testing methods and instruments. Analyze clinical and laboratory needs, direct the selection and evaluation of new methods and instruments.

Requirements of the Molecular & Cytogenetics Tech Specialist:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related Science
  • 4+ years of Molecular Biology experience
  • ASCP certification
  • Experience with PCR and Next Gen Sequencing
  • FISH experience is a plus
