Cytogenetic Technologist – Charlotte, North Carolina | Full-Time, Evenings

Job Responsibilities
As a Cytogenetic Technologist, you’ll contribute to essential diagnostic testing and laboratory operations, including:
- Performing sample setup, culturing, harvesting, slide preparation, and staining
- Conducting microscopic analysis, photography, karyotyping, and FISH analysis
- Ensuring integrity and accuracy of specimens throughout all processing phases
- Utilizing advanced staining techniques (Giemsa, Q-, R-, C-banding, NOR staining)
- Operating automated karyotyping equipment and assessing chromosomal mosaicism
- Managing quality control of lab equipment, incubators, and cryogenic storage systems
- Participating in validation studies for new test development and maintaining compliance with CAP and other regulatory standards
- Maintaining records, inventory, and assisting in orientation and training of new staff
- Staying current with research and advancements in cytogenetics
- Reporting any issues that may impact patient care and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Life Science or related field required
- Certification: CG (ASCP) certification or equivalent required
- Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in cytogenetics preferred
Skills & Attributes:
- Manual dexterity and precision for laboratory procedures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to sit for extended periods during analysis and stand during harvest procedures
- Effective communication and collaboration with laboratory staff
- Commitment to safety and compliance when working with biohazardous materials
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay range: $32.45 – $48.70 per hour (based on experience)
