Requirements of the Diabetes Educator/RD:
- Registered Dietitian with 2+ years of clinical experience.
- Master's degree.
- Certified Diabetes Educator status is preferred or achieved within 5 years of employment.
Responsibilities of the Diabetes Educator/Dietitian:
- The Diabetes Educator RD has additional knowledge in diabetes and diabetes self-management training/support obtained through working within a Self-Management education program and through continuing education credits approved by the American Diabetes Association and/or has achieved and maintained Certified Diabetes Educator status.
- The Diabetes Educator performs a diabetes assessment, develops an educational plan, provides diabetes self-management education, and revises the plan as needed in conjunction with the physician's medical plan.
- The Diabetes Educator works as part of a multi-disciplinary approach. The Diabetes Educator participates in community education and the promotion of healthy behaviors and prevention.
