Echocardiogram Tech

Location: USAFA, CO- Cardiology Clinic

Qualifications:

2.1 ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT. Echocardiogram Technician must be able to read, understand, speak, write English fluently, and be a United States citizen.

2.2 FORMAL EDUCATION. The Echocardiogram Technician shall have a current certification or registration from an accredited national, international, or military trained equivalent school for cardiology/pulmonary testing.

2.2.1 Technician must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). This certificate must be current at all times. Certification is at no expense to the government.

2.3 EXPERIENCE. The Echocardiogram Technician must have at least 12 months experience in the past 24 months in echocardiogram and vascular-ultrasound services.

1.0 Specific Tasks:

1.1 The technician shall screen and check in patients and escorts patients to treatment areas.

1.2 Accurately prepares room & patient for examinations, therapeutic measures and procedure

assuring all needed equipment and supplies are available prior to the start of the exam.

1.3 Takes, monitors and records physiological measurements.

1.4 Performs medical treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per extender treatment protocols.

1.5 Prepares and administers medications under the supervision of a nurse or health care provider.

1.6 Chaperones patients.

1.7 Assembles, maintains, and operates medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

1.8 Maintains or assists with appropriate and accurate health record storage and retrieval systems.

1.9 Prepares and submits administrative reports.

1.10 Answers patient’s questions as requested.

1.11 Performs or assists with the performance of specialized testing including EKGs, Cardiac Stress Testing, Echocardiograms, Ankle Brachial Index, and Vascular Ultrasounds.

1.12 Upon completion of procedures and examinations, properly cleans and organizes room and performs any necessary cleaning of equipment as established by departmental policies and procedures and standards.

1.13 The technician shall be primarily required to perform echocardiogram and vascular ultrasound services. When the services are not required, or the technician's services are more urgently required elsewhere, the technician may be assigned by the Chief of Internal Medicine Services to provide support in other sections/departments of the MTF commensurate with their experience.

1.14 Complies with all safety policies. Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

1.15 Maintains professional manner and displays a positive and cooperative attitude.

1.16 The technician must be able to perform echo-cardiograms.
