Job Description

Full-time Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician needed at a top hospital in western Illinois!

Job Summary: Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, involve numerous steps and techniques, and require use of professional judgement. Tests may be performed in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Serology, and EIA. Professional application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results, which aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment.

Essential Interactions: Works closely with technologists, technicians, secretaries, aides, and especially closely with pathologists. Has contact with physicians, nurses, and other employees of the hospital. Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited school. Medical Certification is required. Additional training in specialty area may be required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: The Medical Technologist understands the use and limitations of laboratory equipment and apparatus, and is familiar with standard laboratory methods and techniques. Annually, an assessment of competency shall be performed to verify the employee's abilities with procedures and equipment. This documentation shall become a part of the employee's personnel file. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.
