Job Description

Our Social Worker must work effectively with patients and other staff. Provides Mental Health services to inmates and serves as a resource regarding mental health to other staff.



Provides clinical evaluations for treatment needs of inmates referred by medical, counseling, security, or other facility staff.Provides evaluations of employees at the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer in emergencies.Provides clinical supervision of the facility Crisis Team. This includes provision of quarterly Crisis Team training and consultation to team members on all crisis interventions. Such consultations may be carried out by phone during off duty hours.Provides Crisis intervention counseling, brief therapy, and group therapy as indicated for institution residents.Provides consultation on mental health issues to the facility medical staff.Provides staff training to facility personnel on mental health issues including the function of the Crisis Team and how to access its services.Monitors the provisions of crisis services to include review of documentation for accuracy, completeness, and fulfillment of institution directives and procedures.Coordinates closely with the institution consulting psychiatrist to ensure that inmates requiring evaluation for medication or re-evaluation of current medications are seen by the physician in a timely manner and that the psychiatrist is aware of any information pertinent to the inmate's clinical condition.Monitors the clinical condition and treatment needs of special inmate population (e.g. Guilty but Mentally Ill or inmates receiving anti-psychotic medication) as determined necessary by institution or agency directive or local policy.Maintains required documentation on all mental health contacts to include submission of a monthly summary report to the agency Chief of Mental Health Services.Where applicable, provides psychiatric services for those committed persons who need to be transferred to Mental Health facilities. Services to include work up and any court hearing testimony needed.Where applicable, acts as regular psychiatrist and participates in the treatment programming and planning discussion of problem cases, follow up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input.Provides services in compliance with Administrative Directive 04.04.102 Mental Health Services and Department Rule, Part 415 (Guilty but Mental Ill III).Provides staff training in areas related to mental health issues such as signs and symptoms of mental illness, management of mentally ill inmates, crisis intervention and related topics.Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Master's Degree in psychology preferred

Experience:

  • Two (2) years post-degree clinical experience preferred
  • Prefer previous correctional mental health experience

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have licensure or registration as Social Worker
