Job Description

STG International is currently seeking a qualified Audiologist to support Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

1) Provide diagnoses, treatment, and case management to patients suffering from severe audiology disorders and impairments, many of whom are referred to the center following failed treatment plans at other tertiary care centers with an expected level of care and expertise not available at any other MTF.
(2) Coordinates with Government management with regards to new approaches and innovative methods of problem-solving in the evaluation, prevention, treatment, restoration, management, rehabilitation, and resolution of unique caseload assignments.
(3) Functions as program coordinator/team leader for the Cochlear Implant Program for overseeing contract employees. Engages in the differential diagnosis and management of novel and obscure hearing problems, associated with functional, mixed, conductive, sensory, neural, sensorineural, central hearing loss and cognitive auditory communication.
(4) Integrates and streamlines intra- and inter-agency collaborations, in the area of cochlear implants, between geographically separated multi-facilities. Functions across the gamut of audiology activities required of the population.
(5) Applies to the patient cutting-edge, innovative diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical trial techniques, developed exclusively within the Center or with strategic partners, for potential application across DoD.
(6) Documents and develops clinical practice guidelines, evidence-based practice standards of care, templates, testing guidelines, and development/employment of off-label use of technologies, which are frequently adapted by DoD, Veteran’s Health Administration, and civilian colleagues.
(7) Advanced Clinical Education/Training: The Cochlear Implant program supports our pediatric population, adult beneficiaries, and wounded warriors. These services are not available anywhere else in the Direct Health Agency (DHA) or at most civilian institutions.
(8) Participates in the largest, most technologically advanced cochlear implantation program in the DoD. Incorporates didactic lectures in the training of otolaryngology residents, audiology residents and visiting residents and staff from other MTFs, civilian facilities, and medical students from military and civilian institutions.
(9) Applies to the patient advanced scientific methodologies in the design and execution of novel strategies in the field of Audiology, Neurotology, and Otolaryngology.
(10) Participates in advanced academic and clinical projects, relative to hearing disorders and their treatment/rehabilitation, especially as it relates to cochlear implantation.
(11) Participates in the development of new clinical practice guidelines and standards of care to advance the delivery of high quality, cutting edge patient treatment in Service members and other beneficiaries.
(12) Advises Otolaryngology and Audiology students, externs, residents, fellows and/or trainees who are engaged in advanced clinical projects in preparation of theses, dissertations, and other Graduate Medical Education (GME) projects.
(13) Maintains the following education/training responsibilities associated with graduate students enrolled in graduate and doctoral programs: 1) teaches principles of diagnostic Audiology, cochlear implantation evaluation, and patient management to US Army externs as well as second, third, and fourth-year graduate students from various universities; 2) instructs trainees in various aspects of their professional education; 3) conducts select in-service with otolaryngology residents, medical students, and other allied health professions throughout the DoD medical health system.
(1) Must hold a Doctoral or Master’s degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.
(2) Must currently have and maintain current license from any state of the United States or the District of Columbia.
(3) Shall possess the specialized training and skill necessary to assess and preoperatively counsel patients, and fit and conduct rehabilitation for adult and pediatric Cochlear Implant (CI) patients and other middle ear implants.
(4) Must have been continuously employed in the practice of cochlear implants for at least 5 years.
(5) Must be able to integrate and streamline intra- and inter-agency collaborations, within assigned specialty areas, between geographically separated multi-facilities.
(6) Must have and maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification does not supersede BLS certification. This certification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while performing services under this contract.
(7) Must possess subject matter expertise to interact daily with residents, DoD service members and other staff.
