QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The qualifications/position requirements identified below list the skill level, ability and knowledge required to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma.

• Graduate from an acceptable surgical tech program.

• Knowledge in medical terminology is required.

• Strong clerical/organizational skills including ability to type 40 words per minute.

• Knowledge regarding insurance is preferred.

• Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY/PROBLEM SOLVING/CLINICAL TASKS

• Must be able to follow through with work assignments.

• Must be able to recognize/correct scheduling errors when appropriate.

• Must be able to function in an area with frequent interruptions.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)

• Continuous contact with physicians, nursing personnel, in the OR and Ambulatory Surgery units.

• Frequent contact with physician offices, admitting/business personnel and insurance companies.

• Frequent contact with surgical patients/families.

SUPERVISION

• Supervised by the OR/Ambulatory Surgery Nurse Manager.

• Consulting supervision shall be provided by the Director of Patient Accounts and Registration/Communication Supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• May be exposed to patient elements.

• Generally clean, comfortable environment.

• Minimal physical demands.

RESPONSIBILITY ACCOUNTABILITY FOR MONEY, EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS-SAFETY OF OTHERS



• Responsible for judicious use of supplies and equipment and the charging of same.

• Responsible for immediate and appropriate reporting of patient and employee injuries.

• Responsible for performing assigned care safely.

• Responsible for attending work as scheduled and on time.
