Surgical Technologist - Otorhinolaryngology Job Overview:

  • Monitoring and recording physiological measurements.
  • Performing portions of medical treatment, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.
  • Caring for, observing, and reporting on postoperative patients and seriously or critically ill and injured patients.
  • Recording treatments and procedures rendered, and observed effects.
  • Preparing and administering medications under provider supervision.
  • Assisting providers with application/removal of splints, sutures, staples, and dressings as instructed. Performing cerumen debridement under otomicroscopy.
  • Assisting providers with minor clinical procedures to include, but not limited to myringotomy & pressure equalization tube placement, punch and other diagnostic biopsies, and fine needle aspiration.
  • Accompanying surgeon to the operating room to circulate, scrub and/or assist in surgical procedures if necessary.
  • Operating computer systems for scheduling patient appointments, obtaining radiological and laboratory results or other items associated with patient care. Providing patient/parent education as requested.
  • Performing or assisting with the performance of specialized testing and examinations.
  • Performing administrative duties pertaining to the surgical services flight to include but not limited to peer review, supply custodian, and continuous process improvement projects.
  • Knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; nursing theory, techniques and procedures; team nursing; patient needs; emergency medical treatment to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, medical ethics, and legal aspects; prescribed drugs and their administration; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, hygiene and sanitation; risk management, disaster preparedness and transportation of sick and wounded. Mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; and pharmacology of various drug groups.

Surgical Technologist - Otorhinolaryngology Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Certificate
  • Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

or

  • Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

or

  • completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • At least 12 months of experience within the last 36 months in the field of Otorhinolaryngology.

  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

or

  • Certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

or

  • Possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
