Surgical Technologist Otorhinolaryngology Job Overview:

  • Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post-operative dressings.
  • Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste and aseptic technique
  • Monitor and record physiological measurements
  • Perform portions of medical treatment, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures
  • Care for, observe, and report on postoperative, critically ill and injured patients
  • Record treatments and procedures rendered and observes effects
  • Prepare medication under nurse or physician supervision
  • Assemble, operate and maintain therapeutic equipment
  • Perform basic life support
  • Assist providers with application/removal of splints, sutures, staples, and dressing as instructed
  • Assist providers with minor clinical procedures to include, but not limited to myringotomy and pressure equalization tube placement, punch and other diagnostic biopsies and fine needle aspiration
  • Perform or assist with the performance of specialized testing and examinations
  • Accompany surgeon to the operating room to include circulate, scrub and/or assist in surgical procedures including, but not limited to, general head & neck, middle ear, laryngeal, soft palate and throat, nose, and any other procedures as necessary.
  • Be able to receive credentials at a civilian External Resource Sharing Agreement hospitals or outpatient surgery centers to assist surgeons.
  • Operate computer systems for scheduling patient appointments, obtaining radiological and laboratory result or other items associated with patient care
  • Provide patient/parent education as requested
  • Perform Front Desk duties to include, but not limited to, Screen and checks-in patients, answer phones, relay messages, book appointments, prepare providers schedules, assist patient's needs
  • Prepare all documents to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits
  • Provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured their privacy and personal dignity.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment
  • Assist with pre-operative packet requirements; prepares documents, orders diagnostic exams and print results
  • Perform other administrative functions as assigned, such as, but not limited to infection control monitor, supply custodian, and clinic safety monitor.

Surgical Technologist Otorhinolaryngology Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Computer Skill Competency
  • Certificate
  • Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
  • Certification: Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.
