Job Description

Surgical Technologist :

We are seeking an experienced candidate with at least 3 or more years of surgical tech experience in an acute care hospital OR. They must be competent in all services except Vascular, Thoracic and Open Heart. They must be AST Certified.

-We are level 3 trauma, rotate on-call 7p-7a M-F and 7a-7a Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Surgical Technician is a member

of the surgical team who works with Surgeons, Anesthesia personnel, RN’s and other personnel to perform

delegated patient care duties according to the standards of the profession and the policies and procedures.

Assists in preparing the set-up and implementation of the case to be performed by the Surgeon. Demonstrates

clinical judgment and critical thinking skills in delivering all aspects of patient care. The individual in this position

will interface daily with patients, physicians, nursing staff and technologists to ensure quality services and

continuum of care. The individual must demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills and

the ability to maintain a positive attitude and remain productive under stress. For some departments

Surgical Tech may be responsible for operating the nurse call system, using phone system (placing

telephone calls and paging). May be responsible for operating office equipment (copiers, fax, computer and paging).

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of training program for Certified Surgical Technologists (AST certification preferred) or graduate of L.P.N. Program with Operating Room experience desired. Maintains an active certification as a Certified Technologist. The following qualifications are also mandatory: Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care. Demonstrated excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as a team player. High School graduate or equivalent. BLS Certified.
