Surgical Tech First Assist

A leading regional healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Surgical Tech First Assist to provide advanced technical and first-assisting support during surgical procedures in a fast-paced operating room environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia professionals, and other members of the surgical team while helping ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The Surgical Tech First Assist will provide direct intraoperative assistance and help anticipate the needs of the surgeon throughout complex procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide first-assisting support to surgeons during operative procedures

• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping

• Maintain a sterile field and follow infection prevention and safety protocols

• Anticipate the surgeon's needs and provide appropriate instruments and supplies

• Assist with tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and other first-assist duties within established scope and training

• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies

• Perform surgical counts and maintain accurate documentation

• Assist with wound closure and dressing application as directed

• Monitor and maintain proper functioning of surgical equipment

• Assist with operating room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures

• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other members of the surgical team

• Follow departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards

• Maintain a strong focus on patient safety and efficient operating room workflow

Qualifications

• Surgical Technology education/training or equivalent qualifications

• Previous surgical technology experience

• First-assisting experience required

• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique

• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and function effectively in a fast-paced OR

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons and the multidisciplinary surgical team

• Appropriate surgical first-assist certification/credentials as required by the position
