Permanent & Full-Time Direct Hire
Surgical Services | Hospital-Based | Operating Room

A hospital-based surgical services department located along the South Carolina coast is seeking experienced Surgical Technologists to join its operating room team. These opportunities are well suited for skilled Surgical Technologists who are looking to work in a collaborative surgical environment focused on patient safety, quality care, and excellent surgical outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Verify that surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and properly prepared.
  • Assist with operating room setup according to the specific surgical procedure.
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
  • Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other surgical supplies.
  • Scrub in and assist surgeons and other members of the surgical team during procedures.
  • Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to surgeons as needed.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team throughout procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation for surgery.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field.
  • Assist with surgical site preparation and draping.
  • Handle surgical specimens appropriately according to established protocols.
  • Operate surgical equipment safely and effectively.
  • Monitor the sterile field and immediately address potential breaks in sterile technique.
  • Follow infection-control, aseptic-technique, and patient-safety standards.
  • Assist with operating room turnover and preparation between procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to surgical procedures and supplies.
  • Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are handled appropriately following procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent surgical situations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
  • Participate in quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
  • Perform additional Surgical Technologist responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous Surgical Technologist experience required.
  • NBSTSA certification required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, instrumentation, and sterile technique.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and surgical safety standards.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of surgeons and other surgical team members.
  • Strong patient-care and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Strong critical-thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused during surgical procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Commitment to patient safety, sterile technique, and quality patient care.
  • Ability to meet scheduling, call, weekend, and holiday requirements as applicable.
