Key Responsibilities

• Verify patient identity and ensure all required instruments/equipment are available

• Maintain aseptic technique and support infection prevention standards

• Apply knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology

• Anticipate surgeon needs and assist throughout surgical procedures

• Perform and document accurate counts (sponges, sharps, instruments)

• Properly label medications and specimens on the sterile field

• Participate in “Time Out” procedures

• Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and instrument processing

• Assist with training students and new staff

• Cross-train within Perioperative Services as needed

Qualifications (must meet ONE of the following):

1. Completion of a nationally accredited Surgical Technology program and certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).

2. Completion of an accredited program and obtain certification within 18 months of program completion or within 6 months of hire.

3. Surgical Tech experience in a healthcare facility on/before Oct 1, 2023 (with verifiable proof).

4. Completion of military Surgical Technology training.

5. Designation by facility as competent based on specialized training or related experience.

Additional Requirement:

• BLS certification (required)
