Speech Therapist Job Overview:
- Develop coherent treatment strategies.
- Incorporate new clinical procedures sufficient to perform clinical services independently.
- Conduct patient assessments; provide treatment interventions and consultation to other healthcare professionals.
- Use instrumentation (e.g., videofluoroscopy, nasendoscopy, stroboscopy, computer technology) to observe, collect data, and measure parameters of communication and swallowing, or other upper aero-digestive functions in accordance with the principles of evidence-based practice.
- Provide prevention, screening, consultation, assessment and diagnostic, treatment, intervention, management, counseling, and follow-up services for disorders of speech and language, including comprehension and expression in oral, written, graphic, and manual modalities.
- Treat cognitive aspects of communication and language processing to include preliteracy and language-based literacy skills and phonological awareness.
- Educate/counsel individuals regarding acceptance, adaptation, and decision making about communication concerns. Counsels patients and family regarding patient's status and ways to facilitate more effective communication or eating in the home, school, work, or community setting.
- Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to develop appropriate and comprehensive health care plans for patients who have communication and/or feeding problems. Generates consults for referral to other services.
- Participate in peer review activities.
Speech Therapist Job Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in communication disorders or speech pathology from a speech pathology program acceptable to the USAF Surgeon General and accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Certification of Clinical Competency in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA
- Certification of Certified Brain Injury Therapy from Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialist (ACBIS)
- 24 months of experience within the last 36 months
- Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech Therapist
- Basic Life Support
