Job Description

Sleep Technician

Akahi Associates, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Sleep Technician to work at our client site the National Institute of Mentalh Health (NIMH) in Bethesda, MD. This is a full-time position with benefits. 40 hours per week, Weekdays and Weekends.

  • TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall share time between sleep lab and the laboratory of biology, guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, and other guidance:

    • Biology lab: Manage and prepare data collection tools, blood samples (plasma, RNA, DNA, lymphocytes) and other sample collection procedures; monitor field work.
    • Maintain patient database; log subjects in chronic experimental settings.
    • Prepare and analyze digital biological data acquired through computerized

    • Polysomnography: Follow sleep study protocol, including study preparation, set-up, and monitoring patients in sleep study.
    • Perform polysomnographic recording (PSG) on patient population on demand and based on individual patient requirement. The ability to use applicable electrodes and sensors based on standard operation.
    • Score sleep records according to Rechtschaffen and Kales and AASM, and review study protocol with subjects and document routine observations.

    DELIVERABLES. Upon request, the contractor shall provide documentation evidence of any and/or all work product, including, but not limited to, the following tasks:

    • Work products and documents related to performing polysomnographic recording (PSG) on demand, one or two nights per patient and based on individual patient requirements, including study preparation, set-up, and monitoring.
    • Work products and documents related to facilitating and monitoring data collection tools, blood and other sample collection procedures; preparing blood samples; performing intricate procedures on biological
    • Work products and documents related to maintaining proper data specimens; maintaining patient database; logging subjects in chronic experimental settings; preparing and analyzing digital

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER EXPERTISE REQUIRED. The contractor must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline; four (4) years of specialized experience plus a high school diploma is equivalent to a BA/BS degree.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a sleep technician.
    • Training in molecular biology, western blot, ELISA, iPSC differentiation.
    • Experience in sleep study set-up and polysomnography recordings.
    • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
