Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the position is to provide Respiratory Therapist services performing a variety of duties involving basic and technical procedures for patients within the assigned facility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an ambulatory and non-ambulatory hospital setting. There is common exposure to communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Special attire may be required as protection against infection.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires considerable walking and moving from bed to bed, bending and lifting, often in excess of fifty pounds, when helping patients in and out of bed and positioning patients in bed. Ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
A) Administers a variety of Respiratory Therapy procedures including Hand-held nebulization, intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB), mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest percussion with postural drainage, pulse oximetry, and metered dose inhalers.
B) Documents all treatments, findings and observations in the patient's medical record.
C) Responsible for the decontamination and sterilization of equipment.
D) Must identify and correct mechanical malfunctions occurring with equipment, including the disassembly, reassembly, safety checks and operational checks.
E) Initiates and performs effective CPR without physician direction.
F) Makes regular rounds on the hospital nursing unit to review or collect clinical data to insure that the respiratory equipment is operating properly and in compliance with physician's orders.
G) Regular attendance is required.
H) Performs other duties as necessary.
