Job Description

Meridian Radiology X-Ray Technologist

This position reports to: Lead X-Ray Technologist, Operations Supervisor, Executive Director.

Internally, this position teams with: Other radiology team members and radiologists.

Externally, this position interacts with: Meridian Medical Services staff and patients, Indiana Department of Corrections staff and patients, referring physicians, and other members of the public.

Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Possession of an associate degree in radiological technology.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography.
  • Obtain Certification as a Correctional Health Professional within 6 months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR Certification by a nationally recognized organization.

Overview

General Duties

  • Responsible for operating X-ray equipment for assisting radiologists and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.
  • Maintain equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs. Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and report any equipment malfunction to radiology management staff.
  • Performs a full range of X-ray technician assignments and uses considerable independent judgment in making decisions requiring the interpretation and application of established methods and procedures to specific situations.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.
  • Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis.
  • Adjusts and sets radiographic controls to prescribed specifications for proper timing of exposure; regulates the length and intensity of film exposure.
  • Positions and restrains patients; and takes X-rays of patients' chest, limbs, or other parts of the body as requested by physicians.
  • Implements infection control procedures for the work area.
  • Checks X-rays for clarity of image, and retakes X-rays when needed.
  • Distributes images to appropriate medical staff.
  • Maintains quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining repairs needed to equipment.
  • Protects patient and other personnel from radiation hazards.
  • Maintains radiographic supplies and equipment.
  • Analyze patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities; evaluate procedure results for technical quality and accuracy; maintain appropriate logs, files, and records.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by physician, including comparison of previous studies.
  • Review department performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to effect outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees and corporation-related activities.
  • Communicate technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to carry and transport various equipment.
  • Responsible for transporting all necessary equipment to exam locations.
  • Responsible for keeping all company equipment, vehicles and other materials clean.

Pay, Benefits, and Expectations

  • This is a full-time position working 40-hours per week.
  • This position is paid on an hourly basis.
  • Competitive hourly pay commensurate to experience.
  • Schedule is based upon the needs of the department. Variables include patient load, staff vacations, and other needs of the department.

  • 2-weeks’ accrued PTO for the first 3 years of employment.

  • On-call compensation differential.
