Overview

Effectively applies mental health expertise and clinical skills in providing Mental Health Services to inmates or clients resulting in an optimal level of care and significant achievements in therapeutic outcomes.

Qualifications

Education for Psychologist:

  • PHD, PSYD
  • Must be Licensed in the State of Practice

Experience for Psychologist:

  • 2-5 years post-degree (and licensure) clinical experience required
  • Correctional mental health experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications for Psychologist:

  • PHD, PSYD
  • Must be Licensed in the State of Practice

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts intakes, evaluations, and /or assessments for inmates referred by Security, Healthcare staff, and other Community sources.
  2. Conducts evaluations to assess the treatment needs of inmates that request or desire mental health services within the jail setting.
  3. Identifies mental health symptoms, treatment needs, and makes appropriate recommendations to the healthcare unit and security staff regarding the direction or required level of care.
  4. Recommends special housing or special watch and/or observations to security based on clinical findings.
  5. Makes a referral to nursing services based on reported symptoms by the person served.
