Clinical Health Psychologist

Location: Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, excluding the day of observance of federal holidays, between the hours of 0700 and 1900 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.

Qualifications:

5.2.1.3.1. This position requires credentialing per section 5.2.7.

5.2.1.3.2. Possess a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional School.

5.2.1.3.3. Successful completion of a psychologist intern program which has been approved by the APA.

5.2.1.3.4. . Completion of a two (2) year postdoctoral fellowship in Health Psychology or the equivalent in specialized training and supervised practice.

5.2.1.3.5. Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as a psychologist in any one (1) of the fifty (50) states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

5.5.3.2.3. Clinical Health Psychologist. Duties – The HCW shall provide services within the scope of the clinical privileges granted by the commanding officer, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

5.5.3.2.3.1. Deliver brief, consultation based services to patients and Primary Care Provider (PCMs) using the Comprehensive Pain model. Services provided are standard and mimic the structure, function, and pace of primary care (i.e., psychotherapy or other specialty care psychological assessments are inappropriate and therefore prohibited). The PCM is ultimately responsible for the patient's health care plan and makes the determination on how the HCW's recommendations might be integrated into the PCM's plan for the patient.

5.5.3.2.3.2. Provide timely and succinct feedback to primary care physicians and the Comprehensive Pain team regarding consultations findings and recommendations.

5.5.3.2.3.3. Determine the appropriateness of the patient receiving services in the primary care setting, and assisting with implementation of treatment plans.

5.5.3.2.3.4. Formulate Pain reduction interventions appropriate to primary care setting, and assisting with implementation of treatment plans.

5.5.3.2.3.5. Provide brief follow ups, including relapse –prevention education.

5.5.3.2.3.6. Develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health.

5.5.3.2.3.7. See approximately 8-14 patients a day.

5.5.3.2.3.8. Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in patient’s medical record in no less than 24 hours after the patient is seen.

5.5.3.2.3.9. Participate in group medical appointments including Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) and Drop in Group Medical Appointments (DIGMA) as requested by the PCM.

5.5.3.2.3.10. Provide technical direction and clinical insight into relevant pain clinic projects being conducted at the site of service.
