Clinical Psychologist

Akahi Associates, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Clinical Psychologist to work at our client site the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Bethesda, MD. This is a full-time position with benefits. 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.


TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall be guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, orders, and other guidance:


  • Recruit and screen patients for the projects which focus on children with irritability.
  • Conduct preliminary evaluation of potential patients through extensive telephone interviewing of parent.
  • Conduct structured and semi-structured interviews with patients and parents of patients (such as the K-SADS).
  • Provide structured psychotherapy in the form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • Conduct clinical ratings during outpatient treatment studies and longitudinal clinical studies.
  • Provide family support and crisis management services.
  • Provide referral to appropriate NIH resources and community services.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of clinical research in the capacity of clinical support.
  • Write, research and comprise information in accordance with the privacy policy within the private schools targeted in the DC area; meet with private school personnel and staff during the recruitment process.
  • Perform screening evaluations of potential research subjects using structured and semi-structured testing methods.


DELIVERABLES. Upon request, the contractor shall provide documentation evidence of any and/or all work product, including, but not limited to, the following tasks:


  • Work products and documents related to recruiting and screening patients; conducting semi-structured clinical interviews inpatient research studies as well as outpatients and research volunteers; providing clinical support to patients and families.
  • Work products and documents related to providing cognitive behavioral therapy to patients; conducting clinical ratings during outpatient treatment studies and longitudinal clinical studies; administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments; providing family support and crisis management services; providing referral to appropriate NIH resources and community services.
  • Work products and documents related to participating in the planning and execution of clinical research; administering and scoring structured and semi-structured interviews; conducting screening/baseline evaluations in collaboration with staff.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER EXPERTISE REQUIRED. The contractor must have:


  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field.
  • Full clinical credentials required.
  • Familiarity with clinical research as well as cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Knowledge of computer database systems and understanding of pediatric neuropsychiatric disorders and research design.
  • Prior experience with standardized testing tools used in youth
  • Clinical experience required; research experience desirable.
