Psychiatric Technician Job Overview:

  • Perform assigned patient care, procedures under the direct supervision of a privileged psychologist and/or privileged provider depending upon the healthcare worker's assigned clinical area. The HCW shall perform a full range of Psychiatric Technician, in accordance with assignments under this task order and consistent with scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care and treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  • Provide patient care utilizing sound psychiatric theoretical and practical approaches.
  • Assist in the management of a therapeutic milieu; providing structure, social support, patient-education, safety, and social skills training.
  • Oversea, escort, and/or act as a therapeutic participant in patient activities in the outpatient psychiatric clinic and outpatient programs.
  • Provide care for patients utilizing proper infection control and safety techniques as planned and/or ordered.
  • Document per command policy and notifies the appropriate chain-of-command of any abnormal or unusual findings in a timely manner.
  • Utilize therapeutic assessment and interview skills to elicit accurate and concise account of the patient's condition. This can include psychological and neuropsychological psychometrician duties as directly supervised, trained and directed by a privileged Psychologist, depending upon clinical service needs within the healthcare worker's assigned clinical area.

Psychiatric Technician Job Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Technician by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians Level I

OR

  • Evidence of completion of Military Psychiatric Technician Training
  • OR

Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or Social Work

  • Possess at least 1 year full time experience within the preceding 2 years as either a Psychiatric Technician or Mental Health Technician
