Job Description

Polysomnographic Technologist

Location: Nellis AFB, NV

Work Schedule: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: Healthcare Services may be rendered 7 days a week, as determined by the Supervisor, Medical Director, or Commander, to correspond with the needs of the department. As such, the work day will consist of eight (8) and/or ten (10) hours of work with a thirty (30) minute lunch break, not to exceed forty (40) hours per week. Typical work hours are accomplished during night shift, however, there may be a need for day time coverage.


Qualifications:

 Degree/Education (5.2.4): Shall have successfully completed a polysomnography training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or have a minimum of three (3) year of experience as a Polysomnographic Technician.
 Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): BLS is required.
 Experience: Shall have a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years conducting sleep studies in a patient care setting and a minimum of one year of experience scoring sleep studies.
 Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): None
 Licensure/Registration: Possess/maintains registry with the board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), as a Registered Polysomnography Technician (RPSGT), and/or registry with the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), as a Registered Sleep Technician (RST).

Duties:

 Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
 Program montages on sleep acquisition systems; troubleshoot acquisition and scoring program issues.
 Address environmental, equipment and engineering issues that affect patient care delivery; determine appropriate course of action including test cancellations and initiating system changes.
 Conduct and score all types of sleep studies, to include overnight polysomnography (multiple montages), MSLT, MWT, CPAP and Bi-level PAP titration, supplemental O2 titration, pH monitoring, and portable sleep studies.
 Perform end-tidal CO2 monitoring and some ventilator management.
 Performs test and accurately transcribes and prepares data for physician interpretations.
 Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
 Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards. Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
 Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
 Perform administrative duties as identified by the Supervisor, Medical Director, or Commander.
 The Polysomnographic Technician will participate in the coverage of on-call hours.
