Job Description

Physical Therapist

Location: Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, excluding the day of observance of federal holidays, between the hours of 0700 and 1900 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.

Qualifications:

5.2.1.2.2. Provide proof of professional development through continuing education within the last twenty four (24) months with a concentration of Pain therapy.

5.2.1.2.3. Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience as a physical therapist within the preceding two (2) years.

5.2.1.2.4. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the preceding two (2) years attesting to the HCWs clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physical therapist who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW’s clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physical therapist, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCWs communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.

5.5.3.2.2. Physical Therapist Duties – The HCW shall provide services within the scope of the clinical privileges granted by the commanding officer, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

5.5.3.2.2.1. Provide appropriate therapeutic procedures and provide a full range of therapy services in support of patient referrals from the following specialties: Orthopedics, General Medicine and Surgery, Primary Care Clinic, Rheumatology and others as approved by Department Head/Division Officer.

5.5.3.2.2.2. Provide for safe and timely patient care. Develop realistic and documented treatment goals that comply with and satisfy the intent of the referring medical staff.

5.5.3.2.2.3. Administer treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment such as a pulsed lavage unit and/or whirlpool bath, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

5.5.3.2.2.4. Provide documented treatment and discharge recommendations to members of the staff in routine, emergency, and special cases as needed.

5.5.3.2.2.5. Provide clinical guidance to assistants, technicians, aides, students, etc.

5.5.3.2.2.6. Provide input and attend rehabilitation team meetings, seminars, and quality assurance meetings.

5.5.3.2.2.7. Participate in peer review activities.
