Physical Therapy Assistant Job Overview:

  • Provide a full range of Physical Therapy Assistant services, and assist the Physical Therapists with measurements, assessments and therapeutic recommendations to assist with re-evaluation and future treatment planning.
  • Prepare treatment areas for incoming patients. Transport patients to department, and prepare patients and equipment for treatment.
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation, and daily-living activities.
  • Record treatment, response, alterations of treatment plans, patient progress and patient's reactions as needed in the patient's chart and/or automated systems.
  • Maintain department records and files in accordance with facility policies. Perform coding of patient encounters and workload. Document unusual occurrences and morbidity in accordance with MTF operating procedures.
  • All patient contact and care shall be safe, timely, result in achievement of realistic and documented treatment goals, and comply with or satisfy the intent of the supervising Physical Therapist
  • Provide clinical orientation, direction, oversight and instruction regarding patient care to other Physical Therapy Assistants, military technicians, other therapy staff (as needed for cross training purposes), general duty corpsman, therapy aides, and volunteers/students in accordance with departmental standard operating procedure (SOP) and direction from supervisors/leadership.
  • Assure cleanliness and orderliness in the work area. Perform clinically based clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, and scheduling/dispositioning patients.
  • Attend meetings, complete administrative tasks and participate in departmental processes as directed by leadership.
  • Act as a clinical instructor for other Physical Therapy Assistants and other health care students assigned to the department. Plan and conduct lectures and training programs on physical therapy related subjects for staff, students and patients. Provide input and attend rehabilitation team meetings, seminars, and quality assurance meetings.
  • Participate in gathering data for command approved, clinically focused military research projects that have been granted proper Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. Participation will not divert expected productivity requirements of the HCW.
  • Participate in peer review activities.
  • Provide a level of productivity comparable to that of other Physical Therapy Assistants assigned to the MTF, and region as applicable, and authorized the same scope of practice
  • In addition to the personal appearance standards given in the basic contract, the PTAs shall maintain the personal appearance standards given in this paragraph. Uniform shall consist of a collared Polo-like shirt with organizational logo (provided), Khaki-like pants, and footwear/outerwear appropriate for the work location.

Physical Therapy Assistant Job Qualifications:

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers by AHA
  • Certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Minimum of one year experience in the past three years as a Physical Therapy Assistant performing duties similar to those required.
  • Experience in a sports medicine clinic is required
