Physical Therapist - OCS / Women's Health Job Overview:

  • Provides pelvic floor/orthopedic physical therapy patient care, management, and provision of pelvic health physical therapy services provided including but not limited to patient evaluation, treatment; and consultation.
  • Independently evaluates referred clients for diagnosis and treatment planning and determines current levels of patient functioning.
  • Functional area assessments include gross and fine motor skills, deep tendon reflexes, peripheral sensory testing, gait and ambulation, muscle strength, joint range of motion, self-care skills and activities of daily living skills, neuromuscular functioning, etc related to pelvic floor, neurological, and musculoskeletal dysfunction. Advanced education and certification held for evaluation of internal vaginal and/or rectal neuromuscular dysfunction required.
  • Coordinates client's pelvic floor physical therapy schedule with other clinic providers, surgeons, and other medical specialists so that quality of care is maintained.
  • Monitors and re-evaluates the patient's performance, making appropriate modifications to the treatment plan as indicated.
  • Provides direct therapy, consultation, monitoring, and co-teaching models of services to patients with identified pelvic health physical therapy needs, as indicated by evaluation findings.
  • Provides recommendations for adaptive equipment, durable medical equipment, orthotics, environmental modifications, and traditional improvement of specific components of strength, range of motion, endurance, postural security, joint stability, and coping strategies are made to the referring physician.
  • Makes decisions on specific strategies and methodologies with referring physician.
  • Develops and implements complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients presenting with a multiplicity of dysfunction and impairments in physical, functional and adaptive areas such as gait, functional daily activities, adaptive sports, reconditioning, physical readiness training, injury prevention, human performance optimization, pain
  • impairments, and reintegration.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements goal-oriented group and/or focused individual PT treatment programs, selecting activities to increase or improve muscle strength, range of motion and coordination.
  • Teaches alternative or compensatory techniques for rehabilitation, reconditioning, and functional tasks regardless of physical, mental, and/or cognitive deficits.
  • Applies the use of therapeutic modalities and new integrative techniques and technologies for the purpose of evaluation and ongoing treatment. Therapeutic modalities may consist of, but are not limited to, traditional physical agents such as air, water, electricity, sound, and radiant energy; therapeutic exercise; therapeutic massage; soft tissue mobilization; and manual therapy. Additional emerging technologies, such as acupuncture and/or other integrative medicine techniques may be utilized.
  • Designs treatment plans to meet patient/clinical objectives to maximize restoration of physical and adaptive roles and functions. Incorporates psychosocial and environmental factors that contribute to the impact of injury or illness on daily functional capabilities.
  • Utilizes physical performance measures to provide objective data and outcomes with activity/task performance. Designs, fabricates, or recommends adaptive equipment and/or orthotic devices to improve function.
  • Provides patient/family education on the injury/disease process and its effect on function, joint protection, energy requirements, ergonomic needs, activity modification and progression of function or changes in impairments. Develops appropriate evaluation, treatment plans, and recommendations regarding physical requirements, reconditioning, function, fitness, and goals for retention in military (in the current or new Military Occupational Specialty [MOS]), or transitioning out of the military.
  • Provides outpatient and inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation care as needed pending the mission requirements of the BACH Physical Therapy service.

Physical Therapist - OCS / Women's Health Job Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Physical Therapy or Baccalaureate degree in physical therapy for graduates prior to January 1, 2002.
  • Graduate from a college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
  • American Physical Therapy Association certifications:

1) Orthopedic (OCS), 2) Women's Health (WCS) OR a Certificate of Pelvic Physical Therapy (CAPP) credential in pelvic health or pregnancy OR equivalent certification in pelvic health.

  • At least one year advanced educational/clinic experience in treating pelvic health and orthopedic conditions with the ability to execute biofeedback and internal pelvic floor examinations for the evaluation and treatment of pelvic muscle dysfunction
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapist.
  • BLS by AHA
