Job Description

Overview

Under direct supervision and direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, the Emergency Medical Technician provides general emergency care to persons served including initial examination upon in-take and responding to day-to-day medical issues with persons served and responding to medical emergencies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic program

Experience:

  • One (1) year experience; preferably in a correctional/detention center

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current (and must maintain) unrestricted certification or registration in state of practic
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
  • Valid (and must maintain) medication administration certification

Responsibilities

  1. Provides rapid response to apparent medical emergencies throughout the correctional facility
  2. Must be proficient in CPR and recognizing needs to use this technique
  3. Must be competent in handling emergencies utilizing basic life support equipment
  4. Assesses and identifies health problems of new persons served and develops medical record
  5. Administers prescribed treatment and medication to persons served as needed and medically required, and within licensing authorization
