Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Optometrist for a locum tenens opportunity at a leading outpatient hospital in Oakland, California. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative multidisciplinary team providing specialized eye care to a primarily pediatric patient population.
Position Highlights
- Location: Oakland, CA
- Start Date: August 2026
- Assignment Length: 26 Weeks (6 Months)
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Setting: Outpatient Hospital
- Credentialing Time: Approximately 60–90 Days
Practice Details
- Full-time coverage (5 shifts per week)
- Average of 12–14 patients per day
- 30-minute appointment slots
- First patient at 8:00 AM; last patient at 4:30 PM
- Dedicated technicians perform diagnostic imaging and testing
- Fully equipped with advanced ophthalmic imaging technology
- Collaborative team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and pediatric specialists including neurology and craniofacial services
Patient Population
- Primarily pediatric patients
- Some adult patients with developmental delays and double vision (not required for the locum provider)
- Mix of routine pediatric eye care and medically complex, high-acuity cases
- Experience working with neurodiverse and autism spectrum patients is strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
- Pediatric optometry experience required
- Strong experience performing strabismus and binocular vision examinations
- Experience treating complex pediatric patients in a medical center setting
- Contact lens fitting experience preferred, including specialty pediatric fittings
Requirements
- Doctor of Optometry (OD)
- Pediatric Optometry Residency strongly preferred
- If no pediatric residency, a minimum of 3 years of pediatric optometry experience in a medical center setting
- Active CA License
- Current BLS certification
