As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at [Insert Company Name], you will play a crucial role in assisting licensed occupational therapists in providing high-quality rehabilitation services to patients of all ages. You will work closely with patients to help them develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with occupational therapists to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs and goals.
- Implement therapeutic activities and exercises as outlined in treatment plans, focusing on improving fine motor skills, coordination, strength, and independence in daily activities.
- Assist patients in mastering activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, grooming, feeding, and bathing, through hands-on guidance and instruction.
- Monitor and document patient progress, including changes in functional abilities and response to treatment interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and home exercise programs to support ongoing progress and independence.
- Maintain a clean and organized therapy environment, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during treatment sessions.
- Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, physicians, and nurses, to coordinate patient care and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices in occupational therapy through continuing education and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- State licensure or eligibility for licensure as a COTA in Alabama.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Compassion, patience, and empathy in working with individuals with physical, cognitive, and developmental challenges.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills for accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing caseloads and patient needs in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
