Job Description

The United States Air Force is currently hiring for Occupational Therapists! Qualified and motivated applicants are in high demand as we need YOU to help care for our nation's heroes. When Airmen suffer from illness or injury, Occupational Therapists work closely with patients to help them heal and promote overall wellness. From identifying problems to developing and implementing a care plan, these specialists work with patients to restore a healthy, active lifestyle both at work and with their families.

Air Force occupational therapists evaluate and treat active-duty members of the armed forces, family members and retirees with a variety of physical, psychosocial or developmental limitations. Therapeutic treatment plans are directed towards the promotion of health or rehabilitation of physical, cognitive, or psychosocial dysfunction as they relate to activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Specific areas include evaluation and treatment of patients referred for a wide variety of diagnoses who require acute rehabilitation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to managing educational and research functions, duties include administering occupational therapy programs, making recommendations on staffing, physical plant design, equipment and supply acquisitions, and advising commanders on long-range planning and program development needs in support of occupational therapy services. Occupational therapists also deploy on contingency operations, focusing on post-concussive care and combat stress, and serve as extended providers for upper extremity injuries and other conditions.

Eligibility Requirements:

For entry into this specialty, completion of an Accreditation Council on Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) occupational therapy, acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, is mandatory. Minimum educational requirement is entry-level masters (or post-professional master’s degree) in occupational therapy.

In addition, must possess national board certification in occupational therapy through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR®) and possess a current unrestricted state license by EAD date.
