Location: Kansas City, MO

Start Date: 08/23/2021 | Duration: 8 weeks (potential to go longer)

Shift: 8:00 AM-5:30 PM variable days or rotating

Pay Rate: $ 45.00 – $ 55.00 hourly

Description:

The Registered Nurse working in PACU- Recovery room, demonstrates performance consistent with the professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The PACU nurse provides care for post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia as indicated. Promotes policies and procedures, and applicable state, federal and local laws.

Core Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Understands scope of practice, as guided by ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics, for self, patients, and healthcare staff. Demonstrates professional and supportive behavior.
  • RN review patient’s medical and surgical history, lab work, ECG reports and appropriate consents, with anesthesia, administer treatment and medications, help with patient mobility, follow-up, and rehabilitation.
  • RN performs activities, such as administering medication, including careful checking of dosages, and avoiding interactions; starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products; observing the patient and documenting those observations; consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.
  • Utilizes multi-communication approaches including chain of command, which result in intended outcomes.
  • Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments appropriately to ensure achievement of patient care plan directed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider/physician or person acting under the physician's delegated authority.
  • Makes a priority of patient safety, medications and procedures utilizing the five rights; prevents patient falls; ensures infection prevention standards are followed.
  • Safeguards effective completion of discharge orders/plan including patient/family education. Confirms that patient or caregiver clearly understands discharge instructions.
  • Actively ensures that patients understand medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions while under care and at the time of discharge.

Basic Qualifications:

Must be a graduate from a college or university and/or an accredited school of nursing with Current Registered Nurse License (Missouri), or multi-state nursing license required.

  • Current Basic Life Support is required.
  • Two years recent Pre-Op/PACU or ICU, Operative Room experience, Recovery room experience, Anesthesia experience, and pain management experience.
  • Current AHA ACLS certification is required.
  • Current AHA PALS certification if required for position.
