Job Description

Full-Time Medical Technologist needed at a critical access hospital in a beautiful area of eastern Idaho

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the collection and processing of laboratory specimens as well as the reporting of results and preparation of reports. Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Demonstrates support of the hospital's mission, values, and vision in all actions and interactions with employees, patients, medical staff, and visitors.

DUTIES:
Correctly collects ,stores, transports and prepares human samples for analysis. Correctly and accurately performs a variety of tests in the clinical laboratory; including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology and blood bank. Follows critical result policy. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains clinical laboratory instruments or equipment and documents results. Recognizes and corrects basic instrument malfunctions as able, initiates service call when needed.
Performs and records all quality control procedures required for the tests assayed. Recognizes, documents and responds to unacceptable quality control results. Notifies Director of Nursing Services (DNS) of unacceptable results and steps taken to resolve. Complies with policies, procedures, and documentation requirements to meet the standards of accrediting and/or regulatory agencies. Consults DNS and/or Pathologist regarding unusual results. Assumes call responsibilities for nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Participates in quality improvement projects and continually seeks methods to improve patient care quality. Assesses current and possible additions to testing offered based upon patient need, associated cost and Provider request. Maintains an effective, professional relationship with the medical staff, other departments and administration. Spends 50% of time as Laboratory Medical Technologist. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Required: MT(ASCP) or CLS certification. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, co-workers, other departments and health care professionals. Basic knowledge in computer use, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Excellent organizational skills. Maintains and follows guidelines set for standards of practice in quality patient care, and infection control practices as required by state, federal, and the facility
* Preferred : Experience in a laboratory environment. Experience working in a healthcare environment or Medical Laboratory. CPR/BLS Healthcare Certification. Additional languages preferred.
