Lead Medical Technologist – Blood Bank

Overview:
Seeking an experienced Lead Medical Technologist – Blood Bank to provide technical oversight and quality leadership within a hospital-based Blood Bank. This role supports daily testing operations, staff training, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement while collaborating closely with laboratory leadership and clinical teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized blood bank testing

  • Provide technical and quality leadership for the Blood Bank section

  • Oversee quality control, instrument maintenance, validations, and proficiency testing

  • Ensure compliance with AABB, CAP, CLIA, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards

  • Coordinate staff training, onboarding, annual competencies, and emergency drills

  • Monitor blood product inventory and minimize product waste

  • Review turnaround times, specimen logs, and transfusion activity

  • Support audits, inspections, CAP surveys, and Meditech validations

  • Participate in CQI initiatives and performance improvement activities

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related science

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science

  • 6+ years of blood bank or transfusion service experience

  • ASCP certification or equivalent
