Job Summary

We are looking for individual to join our client’s team as Senior Compliance Officer. You will be reporting directly to the Chief Corporate Compliance Officer (“CCO”) within the Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) and assists the CCO with the oversight of all activities, functions, and initiatives related to the development, implementation, oversight, and maintenance of the System’s Compliance Program in order to ensure compliance with: (i) all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; and (ii) all applicable internal policies and Operating Procedures, as well as Principles of Professional Conduct and ethical standards of business.


Job Description

  • Assisting the development, implementation, oversight, documentation, and maintenance of the System’s Compliance Program
  • Directing corporate compliance efforts to promote security and privacy awareness, education, and training under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”), including ensuring that workforce members receive HIPAA training. Additionally, overseeing the System’s compliance with HIPAA and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act provisions (“HITECH”) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
  • Updating the System’s Corporate Compliance Plan as necessary.
  • Ensuring that the Compliance Program operates in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations, as well as the System’s Operating Procedures, and OCC’s internal policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and instruction to Compliance and Privacy Officers on conducting investigations and assisting them with their HIPAA privacy matters.
  • Maintain and oversee the OCC’s confidential compliance helpline and compliance and privacy email boxes
  • Manage the OCC’s compliance and privacy matters database, prepare compliance and HIPAA reports for the CCO’s reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors based on information in that database.
  • Assist the CCO with updating the Compliance Program and rebranding and repositioning the OCC within the System
  • Oversee and support System breach notification compliance pursuant to the HIPAA, HITECH, General Business Law § 899-aa, and other applicable federal and state laws.
  • Managing the System’s annual enterprise-wide HIPAA Risk Analysis project
  • Assist the CCO with responses to outside agency inquiries and audits.
  • Assist the OCC in developing an annual Risk Assessment and completing assigned mitigation strategies.


Skills Required

  • 3-year experience.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • An L.L.B. or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, admission to the New York State Bar, and two (2) years of responsible experience in the practice of law in the field of health care compliance after admission to the Bar; or
  • A master’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in Health Care, Hospital, or Public Administration, or another approved related field, and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in auditing, legal, risk management, or compliance in a large health care setting; or
  • A Baccalaureate Degree, from an accredited college or university, in Health Care, Hospital or Public Administration, or another approved related field, and five (5) years of experience as described in “2” above; and
  • Possession of a valid certification in Health Care Compliance (‘CHC”) issued by the Health Care Compliance Association either upon hire or within 6 months of hire.
