Job Description

Under the direction of the Department/Division/Administrative Director, the incumbent will manage day to day operations including accuracy for patient results, instrumentation, regulatory issues, procedures and processes as appropriate. They will supervise department staff and manage financial and staffing budgets appropriately. They will work with affiliates to standardize best practices throughout the laboratory departments.

ATTRIBUTES

  • BS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Science and/or equivalent relevant experience as recognized by New York State Department of Education for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. (NYS Dept of Education, Education Law, article 165, 8605-9/1/06).

  • Minimum 6 years experience as a medical technologist.

  • Previous experience in a laboratory leadership position preferred.

  • Experience in flow cytometry, preferably 6 or 8 color analyzer.

  • Additional experience in test validation and regulatory requirements is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Human Resource Management. Interviews, hires, plans training, supervises, and disciplines personnel in their department in conjunction with the Manager in Lab Administration responsible for HR. Maintains LA staffing files according to regulatory requirements and reviews files annually for completeness.

  • Financial and Materials Management. Prepares and monitors staffing, operating, and capital budgets adhering to approved budgets, reporting variances to Administrative Director. Maintains needed stock and supplies. Confers with sales representatives obtaining best supply price wherever possible and service representatives to monitor preventative maintenance programs for lab equipment.

  • Regulatory Compliance. Is responsible for and adheres to all regulatory standards and inspections for the department. Successfully completes, monitors and generates appropriate reports for QA and QC activities of all staff and department.

  • Training and Competency. Is responsible for department orientation, oversees staff educational needs, training, and staff competency assessment. Assists in teaching the schools of medical technology and phlebotomy programs as requested.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); NYS DL - valid New York State Driver's License - New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV); CLT - Clinical Laboratory Technologist - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
