Job Description

Seeking a full time POC Tech- Medical Laboratory Scientist to join a top ranked health system in North Carolina!

Position will: Coordinate, implement and maintain the quality assurance programs necessary to support the Point of Care Testing Program.

Required Qualifications:
Education: BS in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Sciences ore related field is required.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:Certification as a Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist by a nationally recognized board/agency (required).

Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level
Participate in competency assessments of POC operators using waived testing.

Point of Care Laboratory Specific Responsibilities:
After approval through the Point of Care Committee, validate new test systems in compliance
with regulatory and hospital policies.
Troubleshoot instrument and kit malfunctions. Ensure documentation of problems, investigation and
corrective action as necessary.
Notify the POC Coordinator of ongoing or irresolvable service issues.
Notify the POC Coordinator or Lab Manager immediately of any situation with a potential to
compromise patient care.
Support established test performance by performing quality control, linearity assessment, six month
and new lot validations, method comparisons, and maintenance protocols following established
procedures.
Provide technical guidance and instruction for waived POCT instruments and test systems to POCT
super users and operators.
Ensure that appropriate proficiency testing material is performed for each test and reported in a
timely manner.
Prepare monthly QC and quality indicator reports. Implement action plans as necessary for those
parameters performing outside of specification.
Evaluate new lots of reagents for precision, linearity, calibration verification, and accuracy before
being put into use.
Act as a liaison and work directly with waived instrument super users to prepare educational and
competency materials for point of care operators.
Monitor the usage and purchase of supplies to maintain orderly work flow, ensuring maximum usage
and minimum waste. Ensure outdated materials are discarded. Ensure adequate supplies and
validated kits are ready for use to meet the needs of the customer.
Demonstrate working knowledge of various hospital / laboratory information systems, software and
middleware. (POC Middleware, Maestro Care, Beaker, EP Evaluator, Soft tech, Safety Reporting
System, SAP, etc)
Assist the hospital in attaining regulatory compliance in preparing for accreditation and regulatory
inspections.
Ensure that the POC testing program meets laboratory regulatory standards (ie CAP)
Interact in a professional and supportive manner with patients, doctors, nurses and other staff
members.
Attend Continuing Education events in order to stay current with new developments within POCT.
Assist in writing and revising technical procedures as required.
