Job Duties and Responsibilities
Grossing Technician Responsibilities include:
- Preparing samples for processing
- Updating information in patient records, noting discrepancies
- Accessioning samples from patients, cassette labeling, maintaining accuracy in specimen identity
- Responsible for gross dictation on specimens
- Safe operation of tissue processors
- Familiarity and compliance with OSHA policies, established policies and procedures, and CLIA
- Assures confidentiality and ensures patient safety
- Ad hoc duties as may be designated
Qualifications
Grossing Technician Education and Experience:
- Must have A.S., B.S. or B.A. in a biological or chemical science
- At least two years experience grossing in a clinical pathology laboratory setting
- Must be HT(ASCP) certification eligible
- Must have working knowledge of OSHA standards, office procedures and protocols
Grossing Technician Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with gross dictation of specimens with emphasis on dermatological specimens
- Detail-oriented with the ability to properly record and report
- Must possess problem-solving and analytical skills
- Should have vast knowledge of dermatology and skin care treatment
- Must possess good communication skills
- Able to multitask
