Medical Laboratory Scientist II / Hematology Specialist – Night Shift | Vermont
Permanent & Full-Time Direct Hire
Night Shift | 40 Hours per Week
A hospital located in Vermont, approximately one hour from Montpelier, is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) to join its laboratory team.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for an ASCP-certified MT/MLS with strong generalist laboratory experience. The ideal candidate must be highly skilled across all major laboratory areas, particularly Chemistry and Hematology.
The selected candidate will initially train as a laboratory generalist. Following completion of training, the position will transition into a Hematology Specialist role while continuing to provide generalist coverage across the laboratory as needed.

Compensation
- $31.97–$44.67/hour, based on experience and qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing across multiple laboratory departments as a generalist.
- Provide testing and coverage across Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, and other laboratory areas as required.
- Perform accurate and timely laboratory testing according to established procedures and quality standards.
- Process, evaluate, and analyze patient specimens.
- Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy.
- Identify abnormal, critical, and unexpected results and follow appropriate procedures for investigation and reporting.
- Perform quality control testing and document corrective actions.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Communicate critical laboratory results promptly to the appropriate clinical team.
- Prioritize testing based on clinical urgency and established turnaround-time requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Assist with laboratory inventory, supplies, and reagent management.
- Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Transition into a Hematology Specialist role following completion of generalist training.
- Perform specialized Hematology responsibilities while continuing to maintain competency and provide coverage in other laboratory areas.
- Support laboratory operations and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required, as applicable.
- MT/MLS ASCP certification required.
- Strong clinical laboratory generalist experience required.
- Strong competency across all major laboratory areas required.
- Strong Chemistry and Hematology experience required.
- Previous hospital laboratory experience strongly preferred.
- Ability and willingness to train as a generalist before transitioning into the Hematology Specialist role.
- Ability to continue covering multiple laboratory areas after transitioning into the specialist position.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week on an overnight schedule.
