Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Lab Technician

The MLT/MT – Registered will work in all areas of the laboratory including chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis, blood gases, coagulation, and serology. They will perform tests on blood, body fluids, and tissues as ordered by the patient’s physician. This role reports directly to the Section Lead, Chief Tech, or Laboratory Director and is responsible for performing waived, moderate, and high complexity tests independently once deemed trained and competent.

Available Shifts:

  • MT/MLT 9:00a – 6:30p
  • MT/MLT 12p- 8:30p
  • MT/MLT 8:00p – 6:30a

Medical Technologist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • MT (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)
  • Work Experience:
    • Technically competent in trained laboratory sections and capable of performing patient care for all age groups

Medical Lab Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Associates Degree
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • MLT (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) or 3 months documented training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed
  • Work Experience:
    • Technically competent in trained laboratory sections and capable of performing patient care for all age groups

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:

  • Review all policies and procedures and recommend improvements as warranted
  • Stay current with communication requirements
  • Operate all laboratory equipment, perform maintenance and calibration, and monitor/approve QC requirements
  • Maintain CEU requirements based on certification
  • Perform patient testing ensuring quality and accuracy
  • Identify and correct problems that could affect patient care
  • Participate in proficiency testing and special projects as required
  • Use safety devices/PPE when handling biohazardous materials
  • Perform phlebotomy duties as assigned
