Testing Lab Operations Manager

Bay Area, California – Onsite | Full-Time | Day Shift | Full Benefits

We are seeking an experienced Testing Lab Operations Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership for a high-volume testing laboratory. This role oversees multiple functional areas, including infectious disease testing, product quality control, and operational support. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and proven success managing complex lab operations in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership

    • Oversee day-to-day lab operations across multiple functional areas.

    • Ensure testing, product QC, and operational support functions meet quality, TAT, and compliance standards.

    • Serve as technical resource on specialized instrumentation and testing methods.

  • Regulatory & Quality Oversight

    • Ensure compliance with CLIA, FDA, state, and accrediting agency regulations.

    • Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, validation plans, QC programs, and training materials.

    • Monitor workflow efficiency, equipment reliability, and quality indicators.

  • People Leadership

    • Manage a team including licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists, supervisors, and lab support staff.

    • Oversee staffing models, scheduling, performance management, training, and development.

    • Foster a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Customer & Business Performance

    • Support external testing business lines and ensure contract commitments are met.

    • Manage logistics coordination with third parties, troubleshooting operational issues, and maintaining high customer satisfaction.

    • Use data and utilization patterns to guide staffing and operational decisions.

  • Financial & Strategic Planning

    • Participate in budget planning, capital equipment decisions, and cost management.

    • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and long-term operational planning.

    • Ensure timely reporting, statistical analysis, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (advanced degree preferred).

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive laboratory operations experience.

  • Experience managing multi-functional lab teams in a regulated environment.

  • Strong knowledge of CLIA, FDA, and other regulatory standards.

  • Proven ability to lead process improvements, manage budgets, and drive team performance.
