Job Title: Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) Supervisor – SBB Preferred
Location: Seattle, WA
Compensation: $103,000 – $160,000/year
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced IRL Supervisor to lead a high-complexity immunohematology reference laboratory. This role involves supervising staff, managing departmental projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical expertise in IRL testing. SBB certification is required; MLS certification preferred. Prior supervisory or lead experience is strongly desired.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff; manage hiring, training, and ongoing competency assessments.

Oversee IRL operations, including workflow, scheduling, emergency coverage, and staffing efficiency.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, AABB, CAP, and other regulatory requirements.

Coordinate quality assurance, error management, SOP revisions, and validations.

Participate in leadership team initiatives and interdepartmental projects.

Provide technical expertise, perform clinical testing as needed, and serve as an initial consult for complex cases.

Manage departmental budget, resources, and inventory while implementing process improvements.

Support research, training, and special projects related to immunohematology and transfusion medicine.
Qualifications:

SBB certification required; MLS preferred.

Minimum 5 years of lab technical experience, including at least 2 years in IRL testing.

At least 3 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of immunohematology, regulatory compliance, and quality management.

Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, mentor, and communicate effectively.
Working Conditions:

Highly regulated laboratory environment with direct exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

On-call, occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work required.

May involve lifting, standing, repetitive motions, and working in cold storage/freezer conditions.
