Job Description

Histotechnician or Histotechnologist:

Highly regarded Healthcare System located in Southern Connecticut is looking for an ASCP Certified Histology Technician to work Night Shift. The Histology Technician will perform tissue and body fluid processing techniques in order to produce diagnostic material (quality slides) for examination by Pathologists.

This is a great opportunity to join a Level II trauma center and community academic hospital.

Performs basic histologic techniques.
Receives, enters, prepares, identifies and codes surgical specimens.
Embeds, cuts, stains, mounts and labels slides of surgical, autopsy or cytological origin.
Performs special stains and check special stain reactions.
Prepares stains and reagent solutions for which basic chemical knowledge is required.
Maintains a safe and clean work area.
Maintains equipment; knowledge of its use and troubleshooting.
Uses time and supplies efficiently, helping to reduce costs. Advises supervisor or supply shortages. Completes assignments within the shift and requests additional assignments when work is completed.
Answers telephone calls. Maintains good working relationships with other departments, outside agencies, medical staff, staff members and patients. Represents the Hospital in a professional, caring and courteous manner at all times.
Reviews departmental, Hospital and/or required policies, procedure manuals, including technical (fire, safety, disaster, etc.) in accordance with guidelines, JCAHO standards and/or other regulatory agencies.
Files tissue blocks, slides.
Instructs other Hospital employees and doctor’s offices on proper procedures for handling and preserving specimens.

Required Experience:

Associates Degree in Histology
Experience is highly preferred
ASCP required (HT or HTL)
