Job Description

Job Title: Histotechnologist PRN (Per Diem)

Department: Histology

Schedule:Varies - This is a part time/ per diem position - schedule will vary and fill in for people on sick days/holidays.

Job Summary:

This position requires the production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, routine H&E stains and other histochemical procedures as requested. The technologist should be responsible to report any inconsistencies of the daily routine work to the Laboratory Director, and be able to function (i.e.; troubleshooting etc.) with minimal supervision. The technologist shall have the ability to work as a team leader, ability to communicate effectively, adapt to a changing work environment, and to assess and develop work tasks and systems in order to optimize lab performance.

Essential Key Responsibilities

The following are daily duties but that are required but not limited to of this position:

• Prepares histology specimens for Pathologist's diagnostic review by: processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining the specimen as prescribed by the Global Pathology Laboratory Services Histology Manual.

• Prepare routine and special stains. Following all hazardous and routine chemical disposal requirements as well as health hazards.

• Participate in instructing new employees when necessary.

• Annual OSHA, HIPAA, Blood borne Pathogens and Hazardous Waste training.

• Enrollment in continuing education to keep up to date on new procedures in the field as well as maintain licensure.

• Proper licensure must be maintained at all times.

• Follow quality control programs as prescribed by the Laboratory Director.

• Follow all protocols and guidelines when handling chemical waste.

• Maintain a professional attitude within the department as well as when interacting with other departments.

• Perform other tasks when instructed by the supervisor.

• Change the processors as designated by the monthly schedule.

• Learn all Histochemical Procedures as requested by the supervisor.

• Annual documented Competency review to keep current on all laboratory procedures.

• Completes annual training programs within the required timeframe and regularly attends staff meetings

• Maintains strictest confidentiality

• Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals

• Adherence to HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations

• Performs other duties as assigned

Education:

• Current Florida Technologist license.

• 1 year experience or training from an accredited school

Experience:

• 1 year experience or training from an accredited school.

• 5 years Dermatopathology experience preferred.

Requirements:
