Principal Scientist – Histopathology & Translational Biomarkers

• Location: Bay Area, CA
• Compensation: $150,000–$200,000 annually
• Employment: Full-Time, Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Principal Scientist to provide scientific leadership across histopathology, translational biomarker, digital pathology, and tissue-based research programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a Ph.D.-level scientist who enjoys solving complex scientific problems, designing and troubleshooting studies, interpreting tissue-based data, and serving as a technical resource for both internal teams and biopharma customers. This is not a traditional people-management position. The Principal Scientist will lead through scientific expertise, technical guidance, and project coordination while remaining closely involved in the science.

Responsibilities
- Provide scientific leadership for histopathology, translational biomarker, and tissue-based research programs
- Support development, optimization, and validation of IHC, IF, and other tissue-based assays
- Guide experimental design, controls, study feasibility, troubleshooting, and scientific interpretation
- Conduct literature research and translate findings into practical study recommendations
- Support digital pathology, whole-slide imaging, and quantitative image-analysis workflows
- Interpret biomarker, histopathology, and image-analysis results
- Participate in technical scoping, study planning, and scientific discussions with biopharma customers
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to scientists and cross-functional project teams
- Support SOP development, scientific best practices, quality systems, and process improvements

Requirements
- Ph.D. in Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Bioengineering, or a related scientific discipline
- 3+ years of experience in histopathology, translational biomarkers, or closely related tissue-based research
- Strong understanding of tissue-based assays, pathology techniques, biomarker analysis, and scientific interpretation
- Experience with IHC, IF, assay development, optimization, and/or validation
- Strong experimental design and scientific troubleshooting skills
- Experience leading scientific projects or providing technical leadership to other scientists
- Strong scientific communication and stakeholder-management skills

Preferred Experience
- Digital pathology and whole-slide imaging
- Visiopharm, HALO, QuPath, Aperio, or comparable image-analysis platforms
- Multiplex imaging, spatial biology, biomarker scoring, or cell phenotyping
- Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, or translational research environment
- CAP, CLIA, GLP, or other regulated laboratory experience
- Customer-facing scientific or technical support
