Molecular Technologist

Location: Houston, Texas

The position of a Molecular Technologist involves the execution of technical and scientific processes within a high complexity molecular testing clinical laboratory setting. This role encompasses specimen processing and handling, test performance, and result reporting utilizing advanced molecular technology. The successful candidate will be adept at managing multiple software systems associated with laboratory instruments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a wide array of laboratory procedures independently, including all tasks typically carried out by medical technologists/clinical laboratory scientists.
  • Receive, accession, and process incoming specimens.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the collection and processing of biological specimens.
  • Oversee quality control measures and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Identify and rectify deviations from expected results, documenting corrective actions as per laboratory protocols.
  • Perform and document routine maintenance activities for laboratory equipment.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions and conduct troubleshooting exercises as needed.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure precision in laboratory outcomes.
  • Timely verification and reporting of test results.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA regulations, both personally and among laboratory staff.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of reagents and supplies to prevent disruptions in patient testing, while optimizing resource utilization.
  • Support the testing, validation, and introduction of new procedures and instrumentation.

Requirements:

  • Must meet CLIA testing personnel qualifications for high complexity testing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory techniques.
  • Prior experience with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques is advantageous.
  • Strong team player with flexibility in working hours.
  • Excellent communication skills.
