Job Description

Air Force Dietitians manage nutritional medicine activities, provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services, perform community and preventative dietetics activities, and serve as an advisor to the Medical Treatment Facility Commander in matters pertaining to food service, clinical and community nutrition and dietetics. Air Force dietitians consult with medical staff on patient or population nutrition requirements and interventions, and they participate in the care of patients as part of multidisciplinary patient care team. They educate patients, healthcare providers and staff and implement the Nutrition Care Process in accordance with the AND. Air Force dietitians may also serve as nutrition department foodservice and clinical leads supervising from 6-50 nutrition professionals, serve as a nutrition consultant for the base community, and provide operational nutrition support for operational units. They may also provide environmental assessment, community-based education and intervention to encourage and support health and wellness. In emergency or wartime conditions, they ensure appropriate contingency plans are developed and followed, and they support medical readiness operations to include therapeutic foodservice and clinical activities.
