**Security Clearance requirements**

The position is a civilian position providing services to the active duty military personnel. The RD is a new position that is being added to an embedded team of specialists supporting military training to optimize Readiness. The team consists of Athletic Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and other medical providers. The embedded team develops comprehensive education and service programs integrated with training.

This is not a clinical setting. The team will be embedded with the soldiers in an 85% male military setting. Most work will be in a military training environment: fitness center, outdoors, range, field, shooting range, obstacle courses, and combative training areas. The AT must be physically able to hike in austere environment and terrain. (no running water, no shelter, no bathrooms, no climate control, inclement weather, loud, and smoky) while carrying their own backpack with necessary supplies on occasion.

Registered Dietitian Job Overview:

  • Observe specific training events (e.g., shooting ranges, obstacle courses, combatives training).
  • Function as an integrated member of a BN-based, multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing military mission readiness and performance through medical availability and task specific performance by providing and facilitating force health protection in support of military operations and patient/casualty care.
  • Provide and perform the following services in support of FORSCOMs SRT2P.
  • Attend BN physical training sessions in order to assess physical demands, determine the nutritional requirements, and make recommended plan to the SRT2P team on nutritional strategies to improve physical performance.
  • Screen, assess, conduct, and interpret body composition for individual Soldiers and BNs.
  • Assess body composition through circumference measurements IAW Army Regulation 600-9, Army Body Composition Program and other public health guidelines.
  • Interpret results within context of Army regulations, public health guidelines and scientific literature for the achievement and maintenance of foundational health and optimal task and environment specific performance.
  • Assess and interpret energy intake, energy expenditure, and hydration results within context of Army regulations, public health guidelines and scientific literature for the achievement and maintenance of foundational health and optimal task and environment specific performance.
  • Make individual Soldier and BN group recommendations, based on assessment and BN METL and WTBD for expected nutritional demands. Synchronize recommendations with the BN military training plan/calendar in context of lifestyle and organizational culture.
  • Order appropriate biochemical and physiological tests IAW Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics practice guidelines, sports nutrition best practices, and as privileged by the local MTF. Interpret results in the context of foundational health; chronic disease and condition prevention; optimal task-specific physical performance; and injury control, illness rehabilitation, reconditioning, and recovery.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy and, as needed; coordinate with MTF based Nutrition Care Providers.
  • Perform nutrient analysis of dietary intake using computer programs and published dietary data
  • Translate current public health guidelines and BN commanders physical performance guidance into nutrition education through print, electronic, and BN approved social media platforms that are tailored to the organizational culture and size of the BN.
  • Develop and conduct education sessions to individuals and groups of various sizes (up to 500+) with or without audiovisual aides.

Registered Dietitian Job Qualifications:

  • Registration: Registered Dietitian from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Licensure: current, active, valid, and unrestricted state license in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Bachelor's Degree with four years of relevant experience
    OR
  • Master's Degree with two years of relevant experience
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) or completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited by the ACEND or completion of a post- Baccalaureate degree Dietetic Internship Program of supervised practice (for a minimum of 1200 hours) accredited by ACEND.
  • Relevant Experience is defined as developing and executing task and environment specific nutrition programs for groups of athletes of Service Members focused on a common sport or mission performance goal. Internships or graduate work is not considered as relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience must be within the last 5 years.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers with AED certification
  • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). Possible waivers
  • Computer competency (Microsoft applications, databases, electronic health records, and analyze nutrient intake on electronic medium.)
  • Active or pending SECRET Clearance

  • Be physically able to hike in austere environment and terrain (i.e. rocky, no running water, no shelter, no bathroom, no climate control, inclement weather, loud, smoky) while carrying their own backpack with necessary supplies. Be physically able to lift and manipulate loads and weight plates up to 45 pounds.
