(Archived) Substance Abuse Counselor
Job Description
Overview
Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, the Substance Abuse Counselor will work in close collaboration with physicians and other health care personnel in the evaluation and treatment of patient population. The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide treatment and support to assist patients receiving care in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, mental disorders, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School and specialized training for licensing/certification(s).
Experience:
- At least one year of experience providing treatment to individuals with substance abuse disorder within a correctional facility
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current (and must maintain) unrestricted license or certificate in state of practice
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS/ACLS certification through AHA
Responsibilities
- Provide assessments, treatment planning, and counseling for substance abuse program clients
- Provide education, consultation services, and training for other staff, community agencies, and the public
- Perform prevention activities designed to prevent alcohol and drug abuse in the County
- Works in close collaboration with physicians and other health care personnel in the evaluation and treatment to further their understanding of significant social and emotional factors underlying patient’s substance abuse health problem
- Completes comprehensive assessment timely of admission and coordinates information with team to effectively plan treatment
