The ideal candidate will have ASCP HT or HTL certification but candidate eligible for certification will be considered provided they meet CLIA requirements. Responsibilities of the Histology Technician/Technologist:
- Prepare grossing room for pathologist: clean and set up instruments; check daily OR sheet and notify pathologist of scheduled frozen sections; filter stain and prepare frozen sectioning area.
- Perform gross dictation of surgical specimens.
- Set up histology workroom: filter stains and fill stainer; set up water baths; empty and refill reagents on the tissue processor.
- Embed, cut, stain, coverslip, and label tissue slides for the pathologists. Check for quality before taking them to pathologist.
Requirements of the Histology Technician/Technologist:
- ASCP HT/HTL certification or eligibility required
- High School diploma and completion of an accredited histotechnology program, AS degree, or BS degree
- 1+ year of experience preferred but new grads will be considered
