Job Description

This position will oversee the Medical/Pediatric, Post Surgical Care, Oncology, and Palliative Care Units at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. As the Director of Nursing you will collaborate with managers that are assigned to each unit.

The Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse (RN) that understands and supports the philosophy, policies and procedures of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Collaborate to produce, nurture, and sustain a professional practice and healthy work environment that affords and enhances patient care effectiveness and efficiency through leadership to multidisciplinary teams, effective physician relationships, and a shared vision and dedication to the future of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Nurse Directors have 24 hour/7 day per week accountability for the overall supervision of unit Leadership, all Registered Nurses and other Healthcare Providers in the area under their direction. The Nursing Director leads and has accountability for the planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring of process improvement, budgets and allocation of resources, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and professional governance to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives. You will also be responsible for recruitment and retention, performance reviews, professional development, and the delivery of nursing care.

Qualifications:

  • Required to have knowledge of patient care standards and practices acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or BSN.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Administration, or related field, preferred.
  • Five years' experience as a staff nurse in an acute care facility, knowledge and expertise in area of application, and competency in critical thinking and prioritizing skills in previous employment situation necessary for patient care and management functions.
  • Previous experience required in the supervision of personnel, evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, budget preparation and resource utilization.
  • Possesses an active Wisconsin nursing license required.
  • Membership in appropriate professional organizations beneficial.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is a private/not-for-profit facility. We are a Level II Trauma Center licensed for 325 beds, operating at 230. We average 12,714 inpatient admissions with 78,119 outpatients and 30,574 emergency room visits per year. Our departments include an 18-bed Medical/Surgical ICU, 8-bed cardiac ICU, 18-bed ER, 1,308 annual deliveries in our OB unit, 12-room NICU, 5 cath labs, performing 435 open heart surgeries per year in our Aspirus Heart & Vascular Institute.

Other units/departments include, Aspirus Regional Cancer Center, Aspirus Spine & Neurosciences Institute, Day Surgery, GI Center, Ortho/Neuro, Medical/Pediatrics, RT, and Rehab.
